Our most popular tour for views of the rapids!

Experience the power of the Class 5 rapids from the rim of the Niagara River Gorge. Along the way you’ll learn about Devils Hole and other historical facts about the river and gorge. This hike takes you 400+ steps down into the gorge via a stone staircase. The lower trail once carried tourists by train. This trail leads to the famous Whirlpool, where we stop to admire the twists and churns of the rapids, see jet boats nagivate the water, take photos, and enjoy some free time for independent exploration. From there we will take a stone staircase 400+ steps back to the gorge rim (this can be strenuous, but we can stop several times). Once we reach the gorge rim, we will view the powerful and mighty Whirlpool rapids from the top of the gorge. We will hike back along the top of the gorge to our original meeting spot at Devils Hole State Park. While the trail is mostly smooth, this hike does have some very narrow single-file sections. We may need to alter this tour due to rock slides. Also note the upper and lower rim trails can get muddy after heavy rains.

Lots of cool strange stuff on this tour.

hike along the Niagara River where you’ll discover some interesting items related to the Niagara Gorge railtrail. You’ll also come across some mystery items that your tour guide has not yet figured out. We will arrive at the old Schoellkopf Power Plant ruins where you can spend some time learning about the power plant and exploring on your own. This hike includes an elevator ride to the top of the gorge to avoid the typical 400+ steps back up. The hike continues along the rim of the Niagara River with great views of the river and gorge. We’ll stop at all the best locations for fabulous photos. We’ll make our way back to our original meeting spot. Note: The trail gets narrow, overgrown and rocky in some locations.
